Avatar

OK, so set aside your qualms about blue cats with breasts, and all the other nonsense you’ve heard, because James Cameron’s Avatar is quite simply the must-see event movie of the year.

The story may be so-so, and not particularly original – shades of Last of the Mohicans, Dances with Wolves, The New World – in fact any vaguely sensitive movie in the last thirty years to reflect the coming of the West and its impact on native peoples, their cultures, religions and environments. But the world that’s created – the green planet of Pandora – is simply fantastic. Detailed, authentic, astounding. I can’t say much more than get yourself to a 3-D screening soon.

PS. And though there were scenes shot on Hawaii and at Hughes Airforce Base in Cali, on-location filming will never be quite the same again….
