Vampir, creatures of legend, have terrified Serbian children for centuries. But for Aleksandr, and his friends Ana, Milos, Dragan and Milica – all members of the Optor! Student opposition – these are legends that have long been forgotten. Besides, in the winter of 1999-2000, the students have a greater challenge – the overthrow of Slobodan Milosevic.

In spite of the massive street marches, Milosevic is fighting back, violently cracking down on the opposition, the media, the students. Now it seems that only a miracle will keep Milosevic from remaining in power. In desperation, Aleks and his comrades enlist the help of the Vampir – a group of twelve brutal, blood-soaked mercenaries from the Bosnian War, who claim that they can turn the tide of the struggle. It seems an idle boast, but the Serbs soon discover that the Vampir are indeed quite capable of fulfilling their promise.

Unnerved by the fact that so few can accomplish so much, Aleksandr comes to understand the true, horrific nature of these twelve strangers, he realizes that they’ve unleashed a nightmare in their midst.
