Cloverfield

Less a movie, more an event; the eagerly anticipated Cloverfield rocked onto South African screens this week. Godzilla meets the Blair Witch Project, the movie is, quite simply – and quite literally, actually – a blast, with an outsized monster thundering its way through New York City, really REALLY pissed off.

I loved the grainy lighting, I loved the shaky hand-held camera, I only noticed afterwards that there was absolutely no sound track – all served to intensify the sense that you were watching someone’s ghastly home movie. When your mates explode in a vapour of blood in Bloomingdales, you know you’re having a helluva night.
