It’s Christmas Eve in Peru. Teenager Juliane Reiss and her mother are traveling home to her zoologist father’s wildlife reserve in the Amazon jungle, when the plane is struck by lightning and breaks up mid-air. Sucked out of the fuselage, Juliane falls nearly 3 kilometres without a parachute, but miraculously she survives with only minor injuries.
But this is just the start of her remarkable ordeal. Because totally alone, ill-equipped and unprepared, she now has to walk out across the impenetrable Peruvian Amazon, using only her wits and her remarkable tenacity, to find help.
