The digital campaign for Selma was introduced via a banner advert on IMDb which contained the trailer, critic’s quotations, and a graphic. When the viewer clicked the body of the ad though, they were taken to the film’s website, where Google Maps has been cleverly integrated to allow the user to take a tour of Selma, Alabama – where the infamous voting marches started – highlighting key spots and explaining their relevance. There is the option to toggle between ‘1965’ and ‘Today’ – the first reveals stills from the film, whereas the latter utilises Google Earth to show what each location looks like now.
Saw the film this weekend, and David Oyelowo as MLK is just astoundingly good. How he didn’t win the Best Actor Oscar is simply beyond me. Plus: there’s that song.
