I don’t normally review television, though god knows I watch enough of it, (especially since we signed up to Netflix – honestly, I haven’t even turned our DSTV on since October.) But last night we completed the ten episodes of the first season of The Bridge, a completely remarkable Danish-Swedish co-production. From the macabre and truly inventively unpleasant serial crimes, to the compelling characterisation of the two flawed, human, brilliant lead detectives (plus a great supporting cast) to the mesmerising, spooky soundtrack, to the phenomenal, unflagging pacing, to the tender and insightful views of Scandinavian society and culture and locations, the series is a complete and utter masterpiece. Literally. No words.
