In London 1601, Queen Elizabeth I issues a warrant for the deportation of all black people from the Kingdom of England.
As news of the order spreads fear and suspicion through the established black community of London, the Smith family is forced to navigate lies and betrayals, friendships and rivalries and the ever-present threat of violence, using every means available to resist and to evade deportation.
