John Travolta’s primped, plucked and earringed in Tony Scott’s energetic remake of The Taking of Pelham 123. John’s the bad guy (cue ample over-acting), Denzel Washington plays the humble but crooked subway controller forced to play tag over the airwaves.

So: forget the stylish homage to 70’s thrillers, forget the New York locations (great cross-town caper with motorbikes carrying bags of loot), forget the lip-licky Denzel – the success of the entire movie rests upon whether or not you are distracted / non-plussed by Mr. Travolta’s portrayal of Ryder as a very angry homosexual. Meh.
